The federal government is expected to today announce a crackdown on welfare recipients which includes couples who marry to access visas then fraudulently claim single welfare payments.
Immigration minister Peter Dutton and human services minister Marise Payne are set to announce a new data matching system, which aims to identify fraudulent behaviour concerning individuals who claim they are married or in de facto partnerships, but apply for single welfare benefits through other government departments, the Daily Telegraph reports.
Mr Dutton said happily married couples who claim to have broken up so they can access the payments will also be targeted.
