Nowaadays, polyethyleene (PE) and poolypropylene (PPP) based plastic materials are beeing extensivelyy used for commmercial and houssehold

purpooses. However, these t polymer baased plastics aree substantially reesistant to biodeegradation. Thuss their increasingg accumulation in the

enviroonment is provinng to be an ecollogical threat to the world. Connsequently, over the last couple of decades exhaaustive studies oon the

biodeggradation of plastics have been carried out in orrder to overcomee the environmenntal problems asssociated with syynthetic plastic wwaste.

In thiss research, the immprovement in the biodegradabbility of PP was observed by bleending it with smmall additions (55%) of wood sawwdust

and wwheat flour. Thee developed commposites were then exposed too various environmental conditions namely; eexposure to the open

atmossphere, moist soiil, water and brine solution for aa period of 15 wweeks. After exposure, the compposites were visuually inspected too find

signs of crazing and discoloration thad t indicated the oonset of biodegraadation. The exteent of the biodeggradability of thee composites waas also

observved by change inn bonding naturee by FTIR spectrroscopy. In addiition, the changee in tensile propeerties of the compposites after expposure

was mmeasured by tenssile tests. The exxperimental resuults revealed thatt addition of bothh sawdust and wwheat flour consiiderably improveed the

biodeggradability of PPP. The most proonounced biodeggradation was exxhibited by sampples exposed to bbrine solution annd those buried under

moist soil.
