Near the end of the prelive period, an extensive
network of committees was formed explicitly for the
purpose of supporting and easing the anxiety of
change. Figure 4 shows a detailed transition map,
facilitated by the integration of all committees. The
next important phase in the introduction of CPOE
was advertising the go-live event and the critical
changes that would occur. The committee work was
relayed to the general hospital through newsletters,
e-mails, and posters. General employee meetings
were held once per week for 1 month before the live
date. These meetings reviewed CPOE implementation
status, departmental readiness, go-live strategy,
and organizational downtime procedures. The open
forum allowed important questions to be answered,
so that all hospital employees were informed and
knowledgeable regarding CPOE.
