What is Good? What is Evil?
When we talk about "Good and Evil!" it is only a thin line between it. We all have good and evil within ourselves. We sometime do things that are considered as good to one but evil to another. The norms of society tell us what is good and what is evil. The novel "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson -- have illustrate the existent of darkness and evil in the mind of every man, and all that differentiates good and evil is one's ability to control indulgence. as the story goes, Dr. Jekyll a well know man who have very high reputation in society. Jekyll insists, "Man is not truly one, but truly two" (pg. 43) have successfully researched to separate each side: good and evil, has lead him to loose control of his evil mind. Jekyll felt "a leap of welcome." in truth, Jekyll enjoyed living as Mr. Hyde; who is free to behave in a less honorable manner and a partake in the darker side of London.
Jekyll chose to live both as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde to satisfy his ego's behavior. Dr. Jekyll clearly states that he felt no guilt about Hyde's action, as "Henry Jekyll stood at times aghast before the acts of Edward Hyde, but the situation was apart from ordinary laws, and insidiously relaxed the grasp of conscience. It was Hyde, after all, and Hyde alone, that was guilty." This explanation seems ridiculous, because Mr. Hyde is in fact Dr. Jekyll who should be responsible for his own action. Jekyll is blaming on Hyde for his inhumanity behavior "trampled calmly over the Childs body and left her screaming on the ground." and "murdered of Sir Danvers Carew" : as he didn't realized that it is within himself. Likewise, most people does not take responsibility for their action and behavior. In Human nature, that we all trying to find excuses to cover our wrongness behavior and their is no exception for Dr. Jekyll to do such things.
