One of the impacts of information technology (IT) is that it enables the creation of an informed
work place. However, developing an informed work place requires more than just the use of certain
hardwares. What is equally important is the adjustment in other aspects of organizational practice. This
paper examines the characteristics of the informed work place. The role of HRM practice in
developing the informed work place is discussed. Since Malaysia is positioning itself to be a major
player in the growth of IT, an examination of issues affecting the development of the informed work
place in Malaysia is undertaken. Specifically, this paper examines the ability of Malaysian
organizations to develop HRM practices needed to create the informed work place.
