Lesson VOC 58
Task: Cook: make juice from frozen concentrate.
Prerequisites: ADT 17, ADT 19, ADT 28
Concept: In this activity, the skills of pouring liquids into a cup (see prerequisite ADT 19) and making instant coffee or a powdered drink (see prerequisite ADT 28) are expanded to the use of a pitcher and more intensive stirring. In addition, some skill with using a faucet (see prerequisite ADT 17) will be needed. Although this lesson is designed for a potential work setting, the task can easily be modified to a home setting.
Behavioral Objective: When requested to "please make some orange juice," the student will locate all necessary materials, produce orange juice from concentrate, and pour the results into at least three glasses to a 90% accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: A pitcher, a large spoon, a sink, frozen orange juice concentrate, and glasses.
Task Analysis:
1. Review each of the identified prerequisite skills with the student.
2. Verbally prompt the student to place about 4 inches of warm water and the frozen can of juice concentrate into the pitcher. By letting the can stand in the water, the product should loosen from the sides of the can.
3. Continue Step 2, adding verbally prompting the student to remove the can, empty the water, and open the top of the can. This aspect may require some physical prompting at first.
4. Continue Step 3, adding the use of the spoon to remove the contents into the pitcher and using the can to add the number of cans of cold water identified on the label.
5. Guide the student in stirring until all of the concentrate has been blended into the water.
6. Guide the student in pouring the result of Step 5 into the glasses.
