In the earliest projects, the students chose projects that were similar to the tutorials.
For example, after a tutorial in which students created an app for choosing random menu
items, there was a proliferation of projects in the "choose random element from list"
genre, such as restaurant selectors, music selectors, Magic 8-Ball, and Mash4. To help
foster creativity among the teams, we followed these with themed projects. Themes that
proved successful were service, education, entertainment, and entrepreneurship.
