Since 2000, the DES has worked in partnership with the DoH and the HSE to support the implementation of Social,
Personal and Health Education (SPHE) at junior cycle and Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE) at both junior
and senior cycles. Health Promotion Officers and members of the SPHE Support Service collaborate on a regional
basis to ensure that schools are supported in meeting the health needs of their students. The development of a
national framework for Health Promoting Schools Post-Primary is regarded as a positive development by the SPHE
Inter-Departmental Partnership.
