This is the sixth year of the SFSFS program and we couldn’t be more excited! This year we have chosen to build upon the redesign the program and work with a single school over the course of the spring semester to increase volunteer engagement opportunities and maximize the impact of our work with school kids.
This year the program will work with 400 students from the Graham Schools over the spring semester (excluding Spring Break) from January 20-April 19th. Each week there will be 10-12 reading times for up to 20 volunteer to read and participate in the program each week.
The goal is to provide 800 books for this program. All books and moneys collected to buy books will go towards a free book fair held late spring semester for students who are part of the program to take home a book of their very own. The rest of the books not given away directly to students will go to increasing the size of the school library so that these books make an impact on students for years to come.
Working with the Graham Schools over the course of the Spring Semester will increase the effectiveness of the program by allowing Ohio State students to have ongoing mentoring relationships with school kids that inspire a love of reading.
