at a small Midwestern university. However, the control students
received instruction on gas laws while enrolled in a secondsemester
course in the spring, and the experimental students
received instruction on gas laws while enrolled in a firstsemester
course in the fall. The experimental group viewed the
animation three times (total time: less than two minutes), and
the instructor explained the important and relevant microscopic
processes depicted. Both sets of students received instruction
at the molecular level (static drawings or animations)
and each lesson lasted 25–30 minutes. Both sets of students
were given the same quiz during the class period following
instruction, and the two sets of responses were compared.
