classes (9). A further complication of the
humoral immunological status of the malnourished
populations in the tropics is the
high prevalence of Hepatitis B antigenemia
which may be transmitted by mosquito bites
(10). In view of these features we thought it
appropriate to survey two school populations
in Tanzania. The two populations were chosen
for their somewhat contrasting locales
and for their known difference in gut and
urinary parasite prevalence. We examined
these subjects with regard to nutrition, parasitic
infestation, malaria exposure, serum immunoglobulin
concentrations, and hepatitis
B antigenemia in an attempt to unravel some
