“I miss being a kid”
We all at least once in our lives have thought about that. Some even say it out loud. Some even louder just to make sure the world can hear it clearly. We all miss that tiny world of ours – a world without worries, stress, and responsibilities. We all miss those days in which we woke up each morning to discover new exciting things in our garden, in the neighborhood, and in some unexplored places we were thrilled to visit. We were excited every time our parents took us to a mall or a zoo. A playground was our heaven on earth. We spent hours observing walking ants and followed them to their home, wondering how they lived down below.
We all miss those days in which our imagination never reached its limit and those drawings we made for our parents but only we could understand. We perceived the world as a fairyland through our innocent mind. We believed in flying angels and Neverland. We looked forward to each Christmas and hoped Santa Claus would drop us presents as a reward for being good kids. We believed in promises and remembered every single word spoken to us. We still believed in those promises even though they were broken so many times. We counted days and months for someone to return.
We all miss those days when we started learning how to feel: to love, to hate, to be disappointed, to be sad, and to be happy again. We miss those days when we disliked someone because they never shared their candy, not because of their skin color. We miss those days when people were kind and said only good things about us – saying how smart we were and what a great person we were growing up to be. We miss those days when people were more forgiving and cared enough to give us a second chance to learn from our stupid mistakes and become a better person.
As we grew up, we realized that we live in a more complicated world than we thought. We didn’t understand a lot of things and why they happened. But, we wished to understand them when we were old enough to see them through. And now, we wonder how we used to see the world when we were young. We wish we would never wish such a wish. We wish we could go back in time and tell the child to stay young forever. We would tell the child to never stop believing in kindness. We would tell the child that this world is full of mysteries and that each person is destined to meet different gods. We would tell the child that all the gods are friends because they are gods of love. We would tell the child to give a lot of love and joy to other people because that is what makes gods happy. We would look at the child in the eyes for as long as it takes and make one last unbroken promise that, despite all these craziness and confusions, the world never gives up hopes on us.
