The CERES-Rice model is a process-based, managementoriented
model that can simulate growth as influenced by varying
levels of water and nitrogen and can simulate the response of rice
to climate variables (Ritchie et al., 1986; Singh et al., 1994; Jones
et al., 2003). The model calculates net photosynthesis (PCARB)
based on constant radiation use efficiency (RUE), leaf area index
(LAI), extinction coefficient (j) and light absorption (PAR) by the
canopy as follows:
PCARB ¼ RUE PAR ½1 expðk LAIÞ: ð1Þ
The RUE for rice was considered as 2.95 g MJ1.
The phenological development as a function of temperature
that is based on the daily thermal time (DTT) is as follows:
When Tmax 9 C; DTT ¼ 0: ð2Þ
