James Higushi, a Canadian trained in wood technology, saw an opportunity to provide house-building expertise to the Japanese markets where North American style construction was just being introduced. Up until that time, the typical home was built using a “post and beam” technique that was expensive and no longer had skilled people to do the work. After spending a couple of years in Japan, Higushi started a joint venture back in Canada with a business should succeed.
