It is the largest event of this kind which is held in a hundred of technical universities across Europe. 80 talented students from Ural Federal University will be competing for the opportunity to go the final round.
The annual engineering competition EBEC is traditionally offered in two categories: Team Design и Case Study. The participants are university student teams consisting of four people. Each section involves 10 teams who have passed the preliminary round.
In the section Team design the teams will have to construct a functioning mechanical device using available materials. For instance, at the previous competition the teams, using the materials at hand such as wood planks, tip markers, motor engines and even balloons, were constructing such machines as a printing press and a package machine. Finally the participants present their idea and under the jury's watchful eye test their device. For registration information please visit: goo.gl/kckBFK
The section Case Study will have a business game format. The competition's partner companies interested in original solutions that young specialists can come up with will be offering the contestants business cases with analytical tasks. After several hours of discussion each team will present their most creative solution to the problem. The jury will assess the creativity and feasibility of their solutions and compare them to the answers presented by the other teams. For registration information please visit: goo.gl/p490ts
The local round is held in 80 universities across Europe. The winning teams will go to the regional round called EBEC Baltic where the participants will be competing with the best students from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Riga, Kaunas and Tallin. At the regional round some teams will be selected for participation in the finals - the European round of the competition. Last year's EBEC Finals took place in Warsaw.
The competition's main advantage is not only an opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge to practice but also to interact with representatives of the largest companies who prepare tasks for the business game and are also part of the jury.
The competition is organized by BEST (Board of European Students of Technology). It is a non-profit and non-political organization which has 98 local groups in the leading technical universities of Europe in over 30 countries. One of such local groups is based at UrFU. BEST was founded in 1989 and at the moment is one of the largest communities uniting students from European technical universities.
The competition will be held in the main UrFU building (19 Mira str.) : section Case Study - on 30 November and section Team Design - on 7 December .
