Since the original formulation of the theory of inequity , now usually referred to as equity theory, a number of revisions have been made in light of new theories and research. One important theoretical revision proposes three types of individuals based on preferences for equity. Equity sensitives are those people who prefer equity based on the originally formed theory. Equity sensitivity contributes significantly to variation in free time spent working. Benevolent are people who are comfortable with an equity ratio less than that of their comparison other, as exhibited in the Calvinistic heritage of the Dutch. These people may be thought of as givers. Entitled are people who are comfortable with an equity ratio greater than that of their comparison other, as exhibited by some offspring of the affluent who want and expect more. These people may be thought of as takers. Females and minorities have not always been equitably treated in business and commerce.
