In the present study, although the cells inthe detached tapetum has also undergone mitosis and developedmultiple nuclei, pollen massula is easily formed in anthers. Further-more, pollen massula strongly reduces the pollen’s germinabilitybecause only a single pollen tube germinated from four grains(Fig. 7). Therefore, although whether or not abnormal developmentof the anther tapetum has resulted in the formation of pollen mas-sula still requires an investigation, it can reasonably speculate thatthe formation of massula has severely reduced the pollen fertility.
