The
diatom-dominated spring bloom was confirmed by microscopy and
the chain-forming diatom, Thalassiosira pacifica, dominated the community.
The abundance of this species was 1.3 × 106 cells L−1 and it
made up 98.9% of the total phytoplankton abundance at Station A5,
followed by Guinardia delicatula (6.39 × 103 cells L−1) and Corethron
pennatum(5.51× 103 cells L−1). The average concentration and relative
abundance of diatoms in the central area during the spring bloom were
as high as 2.13 mg m−3 and 76% (Fig. 7)
