The purpose of this article is to describe implementation
of evidence-based practice related to flushing central venous
access devices (CVADs). Evidence-based practice
(EBP) is a problem-solving approach that incorporates current
scientific evidence, clinicians’ expertise, and patients’ preferences
and values when planning patient care (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt,
2005). The process began with identification of
a clinical problem.
