Important regional clans that battled for power after the destruction of Ayutthaya
1. Chao Nakhon Si Thammarat Clan led by Phra Palad Nu who set himself up as Chao Nakhon. The area of this community extended from Chumphon to Malaya in the far south.
2. Chao Phimai Clan controlled the whole region of the North-east. Head of the clan was Kromma Muan Thep Pipit, King Borommakot’s son.
3. Chao Tak (sin) Clan led by Phraya tak who had proved himself as an excellent warrior in wars with Burma. (Because of his achievements, he was promoted as Phraya Vachiraprakarn). The area he controlled reached the Khmer border and covered the entire Eastern seaboard.
4. Chao Phraya Phitsanulok Clan controlled an area which included Phichai, Nakhon Sawan and Phitsanulok, Chao Phraya Phitsanulok had been a senior government officer in Ayutthaya and was a powerful and experienced leader.
5. Chao Phra Fang Clan was a clan in the North. It was located at Sawangkaburi, north of Phitsanulok. This clan was different from the other because Chao Phra Fang was originally a monk before setting himself up as a prince.
