poisoning. The unsafe washing hand practices by using water only
may increase the food poisoning risk if compare to practices using
soap and water (Altekruse, Street, Fein, & Levy, 1995).
Based on the mean scores obtained for food safety attitude (full
scorewas 5), the respondents seemed to demonstrate poor attitude
in the usage of cutting board (A9), knife washing (A13) and storage
of freshly cooked foods (A16). Apparently most of the resident in
Bum Bum Island did not aware of putting covered food on the floor
can cause cross contamination. Based on the observation during
data collection, over 80% of the respondents cannot afford to have
dining table at home, thus putting cooked food on the floor is a
common practice. All items used in accessing food safety behaviour
showed that respondent have fairly good behavior in food safety
practices with all the mean value scores higher than 65% of the full
score.
