New frozen seafood varieties, offered in smaller packages, boosted 2014 sales, which hit a per capita consumption of 14 kilograms, according to statistics body Fisch-Informationszentrum (FIZ).
FIZ expects the steady consumption of seafood to continue in the year 2015, it added.
Changes in the make-up of the top five most-consumed species seen in 2013 were confirmed in 2014.
Alaska pollock kept its lead with 22.9%, salmon ranked second again with 18.7%.
Herring remained in third place with a share of 14.5%, tuna and trout settled in fourth and fifth.
The demand for fish and seafood increased to 1.13 million metric tons in 2014, resulting in a per capita consumption of 14kg, after 13.8 kg in the previous year.
"Again, the household spending for fish increased by 1.4% in the year 2014 to now, worth €3.5 billion. This shows that seafood is popular with the consumer, said FIZ chairman Thomas Lauenroth.
