Some effects of additional dry friction on the friction induced vibrations can be found in [16,17]. A special technical solution connected with the use of a sequential friction-spring element is discussed in this paper. The corresponding concept is introduced in Section 2. It is demonstrated in Section 3 how it can be used for reducing the amplitude of the limit cycle appearing in case of the friction induced vibrations. The same concept enables also for cutting off the resonance in case of force excited vibrations. The corresponding mathematical analysis based on the averaging technique for systems with “slave variables” [5] can be found in Section 4. It is demonstrated that there is an optimum for the friction force in the sequential element enabling to achieve maximal damping effect in case of the forced vibrations. The obtained results are confirmed by numerical simulations.
