The total fiber content reveals that mate
bark is an important source of dietary fibers, especially insoluble
fibers, since they appear in higher concentrations in mate
bark than in commercial erva-mate (21.9 g/100 g) or in ervamate
leaves (39.8 g/100 g), as reported by Esmelindro et al.
(2002) and Pagliosa et al. (2010a), respectively.
