A 24-hour urine specimen was analyzed for
sodium for each study patient on admission to the
project and at 6-month intervals thereafter. All
but three patients were on sodium-restricted diets
when the project started. At the first team conference
the patients were placed on a mild, moderate,
or severe sodium-restricted diet. The excess
urinary excretion of sodium over the dietary allowances
of the 35 patients for whom complete
data were available can be seen in table 6.
