Thailand is located on the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia (98oE-103oE, 6oN-20oN). It connects both sides of the ocean, including the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea, which is part of the Pacific Ocean. In addition, the Andaman Sea is part of the Indian Ocean. So the variability of oceanography in the Pacific and Indian Ocean would influence, both directly and indirectly to the variance of the climate in Thailand. Besides ENSO in the Pacific Ocean, Thailand is also influenced by the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), which is characterized as an oscillatory mode of the anomalous sea surface temperature (SST) in the Indian Ocean, indicated by Dipole Mode Index (DMI).
