.A COMBINATION of its history and taste has made Thai food "very acceptable" in Malaysia, said new Thai ambassador Chaisiri Anamarn.
He was speaking at the launch of the Dorsett Regency Hotel's "Allure of Thailand: Thai Food Festival" recently.
The three-week festival, which ends on April 30, will serve a variety of Thai dishes.
"The quality of food plays an important role in maintaining family harmony. "Thai wives who wished to keep their husbands happy were encouraged to develop `saneh plai jawak', meaning the charms which come from the tip of a serving spoon," Chaisiri said.
He praised the Dorsett Regency Hotel for hosting the food festival, which would provide an opportunity for more Malaysians to experience authentic Thai cuisine.
"As a Thai, I have enjoyed Thai food all my life and must confess that I never tire of its endless variety," he said.
Guests were treated to Thai dances before lunch was served.
Present at the launch were hotel general manager Hadi Yusuf, Yemeni ambassador Mohamad Taha Mustafa, Palestine ambassador Ahmad Al- Farra, Indonesian ambassador Hadi A. Wayarabi Alhadar, Libyan embassy charge d'affaires Ali Mabaruk Al Sheriqy and Thai Airways International general manager Ton Loharjun.
