It has been a while since the last regional workshops have taken place within our UN Development Account Project “Supporting Developing Countries Measure Progress Towards Achieving a Green Economy” and I would like to update you briefly on the progress we have made since then, as well as the planned next steps within our project.
After the regional training workshops have been conducted in Lima (April 2015) and Hanoi (May 2015), the project has entered its technical assistance phase. In this phase, our consultant Ms. Cristina Klimsza, whom you have met during the workshops, is conducting technical assistance missions of two working weeks in each pilot country.
At this point, all missions to pilot countries in Asia have been completed and we have scheduled the dates for the missions to the remaining four Latin American pilot countries.
Ongoing work is also being conducted on the metadata for the green economy indicators in the project's draft reference list. We have been preparing additional detailed information about the indicators in the list and once finalised, the results will be uploaded to project's website: http://unstats.un.org/unsd/greeneconomy/. We have also updated the timeline of the project and we encourage you to visit the website for current notifications and newly uploaded documents, including information about the technical assistance missions, which will be posted once available.
Currently, the organizational details of the closing workshops of the project are being defined. The two regional workshops are tentatively scheduled for February 2016 for the Asia and Pacific region and end of March 2016 for the Latin America and Caribbean region. The closing workshops will not only look at experiences, problems and solutions from the work over the last two years, they will also discuss how the work started within this project can be continued in our regular statistical programmes to provide long-term assistance to countries in this important area of statistics. Details about the workshops will be posted on the website when available and invitation letters will be sent out in due course.
