Nanoclay and beeswax affected the HPMC-based composite films properties. The HPMC-based composite films incorporated with beeswax and nanoclay could reduce water vapor permeability. A Langmuir model was used to explain the moisture sorption isotherm of HPMC-based composite films and the incorporation of beeswax alone increased the parameter monolayer moisture con- tent. Nanoclay strengthened the mechanical properties of HPMC- based composite films more efficiently than beeswax. The use of nanoclay alone in the HPMC-based composite film affected the elastic modulus and tensile strength without affecting elongation. Therefore, the incorporation of both beeswax and nanoclay improved the gas barrier and strengthened the film mechanical properties of HPMC-based composite film which can be useful as a biodegradable packaging material to maintain the quality of food products.
