Humanists believe that we often push into the unconscious upsetting information, such as not living up to the ideals of society. This causes problem in two ways: First, it means that most of us have an inaccurate self-concept-because we push out of consciousness information about ourselves that doesn't match what society values. Second, this unconscious information sometimes threatens our self-concept and makes us anxious. Thus, although the psychoanalysts and humanists view the Unconscious mind in very different ways, they both see it as the most important cause of human problems. As with the psychoanalytic perspective, few papers in core psychology journals are currently on humanistic themes (Robin&others, 1999)
