The first step was to weigh out 2.0 g of the steam stone product into
a 15.0 mL acid washed vial. Roughly 0.3 g (or 15%) of the 2.0 g of Mya
samples and 0.1 g (or 5%) of the 2.0 g of Shiazo samples were the glyc-
erin flavor formulation. Also, 50.0 mg of marine sediment SRM was
used, since it was initially thought the stones were composed of silicates
or other minerals. The extraction was performed by adding 4.0 mL of
85 °C DDIW to each vial and vortexing for 5 s. The solution and stones
were separated by decanting the solution into another 15.0 mL acid
washed vial. The addition of 4.0 mL of 85 °C DDIW to the sample,
vortexing for 5 s, followed by decanting the solution was performed
three times to give a total of 12.0 mL of extract.
