The following are the standards, which the Company recommends with respect to emission of noise by machinery and equipment and with respect to hearing conservation.
The maximum level of noise which may be accepted over one eight hour working day without ear protection shall be 80 dBA with an increase of 3 dBA for each halving of the daily exposure time, e.g. four hours at 93 dBA, two hours at 96 dBA.
For noise levels between 80 dBA and 90 dBA, hearing protection must be used.
No person shall be exposed to steady noise of 150 dBA (Linear) or more, even with hearing protection. Hearing protection is required to be worn if the noise level exceeds 80 dBA.
No person shall be exposed to steady state noise of 120 dBA (Linear), even for a short period of time, without adequate hearing protection.
Department or Section Heads, and Supervisors should ensure that employees who need ear protectors have them and wear them when necessary. Warning notices must be posted outside areas within which ear protectors should be worn.
6.4 Alcohol And Drugs
It is strictly prohibited to consume, be in possession of, or be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs in the yard premises, except for those drugs, which have been medically prescribed for the person consuming of possession them, at any workplace.
Disciplinary action including dismissal will be taken against any person discovered in possession of, or under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
6.5 Tools and Equipment
All tools must be kept in a satisfactory and safe working condition and inspected regularly. They should be replaced when worn, damaged or broken, and never be used for work for which they have not been designed. Hand tools should always be held firmly and be kept under control by the user.
6.5.1 Electrical Tools
It is essential that when electrical tools, such as drills, saws, portable grinder, cutting fiber, portable lighting are installed, they have the following safety devices:
- Moving parts must be protected by suitable guards which must be so designed and located that the operator’s hands cannot be injured by the machine and “STOP” controls must be clearly visible and located within easy reach of the operator.
