The five skandhas are:
(1) the physical body (rupa), made of the four elements (earth, water, fire, air),
(2) feelings (vedana) arising from our senses,
(3) perceptions (samjna) that assign categories like good, evil, neutral, etc.,
(4) habitual mental dispositions (samskaras) that connect karma-producing intentions to action, and
(5) consciousness (vijnana) arising from contact between the mind or body and the everyday world.
