Antioxidant capacities of extracts were determined using the
TEAC (Trolox-Equivalent-Antioxidant-Capacity) Assay; 100 mg of
each extract was first dissolved in 100 g ultrapure water, and then
ultrasonicated for 10 min. Solutions were filtered and subjected to
a modified TEAC Assay (Schilling et al., 2007). The antioxidant
capacity was determined using an ABTS⁄+ radical cation assay
(2,20-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline)-6-sulphonic acid diammonium
salt). The radical cation 2,20-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-
6-sulphonate) [ABTS⁄+] is discoloured after reduction to
ABTS, which can be quanitified using spectroscopy. For each extract,
different dilutions were prepared.
