1. Explain to the students the rules for using ‘this/that’ and ‘these/those’. You may want to use the items around the classroom such as chairs, desks and even the students themselves as examples.
2. Give as many examples as possible and elicit responses from the students.
3. You may want to provide the examples in a systematic manner by forming sentences using ‘this’ and ‘that’ first. Reinforce students’ learning by reminding them the rules when constructing such sentences. Then move on to provide examples on the use of ‘these’ and ‘those’. This could then be followed by a reinforcement of the rules of demonstratives.
