Preparation of Zn1xCdxS nanoparticles
In a typical synthesis procedure for preparation of the
Zn0.8Cd0.2S nanoparticles, cadmium acetate dihydrate (1.066 g)
and zinc acetate dihydrate (3.512 g) were dissolved in 50 ml of
distilled water under stirring at room temperature. Also, 1.50 g of
TAA was dissolved in 50 ml of distilled water. Then, the TAA
solution was slowly added to the above mentioned solution under
magnetic stirring. The solution was irradiated in air for 6 min with
55% of output using a domestic microwave oven. The formed
suspension was centrifuged to get the precipitate out and washed
three times with double distilled water and ethanol to remove the
unreacted reagents and dried in an oven at 50 1C for 24 h. In order
to investigate the effect of microwave irradiation time on
photocatalytic activity of Zn0.8Cd0.2S nanoparticles, two more
comparative samples were prepared, keeping the reaction parameters constant except that the products were prepared using 3
and 9 min for microwave irradiations.
