.2. Historical erosion situation
From 1974 to 1995, the sea severely eroded the coast. Maximum erosion was approximately 100 m (or roughly 5 m per year on average) (Fig. 4). Meanwhile, LITPROF simulations suggested that storm waves of 2.8m high could erode the beach dune at a magnitude of about 5 m in 24 h (Fig. 5). These results were in agreement with information on the erosion rate obtained from interviews with coastal communities. Therefore, it could be concluded that a combination of high waves and low dune elevation was a major cause of the erosion in this study.
