If you do force feed the patient, they are at risk of developing Hypophosphatemia. Its a loosing battle but has to be dealt with. The health side of the condition has to be seen to first and then the mental side can be dealt with after. If possible the condition should be dealt with early on, mentally before the admission into hospital is made and there then would be no need to force feed but i do believe it is difficult to diagnose the condition early on as an anorexia sufferer would be in denial and continue to be in denial when they are critically ill.
