Paris-The Louvre and Orsay museums shut their doors in a race to move art treasures from their basements, as the River Seine neared its highest level in more than three decades, authorities said on June 4. At least 17 people have been killed in floods that have wrought havoc in parts of Europe, trapping people in their homes and forcing rescuers to row lifeboats down streets turned into rivers. Parisians were urged to stay away from the Seine, which on June 4 was at 6.09 metres above normal levels. AFP
