Students focusing attention on a speaker as opposed to a text may be more aware of the physical environment. If this is the case, then even students in the normal listening condition may be more likely to attribute performance challenges to environmental stressors, particularly if they are concerned about their performance. A main effect for the listening condition was expected. Further, given evidence that individuals are able to detect negative environmental factors, it was expected that students in the OCZ condition would report more negative attributions in general for each of the environmental factors than those in the normal condition.
