Counseling Strategies
Only in recent years have writers in the field of audiology stressed the need for counseling intervention for parent of hearing-impaired children (Stream and Stream, 1978; Murphy, 1979; Lutherman, 1979; Sweetow and Berrager, 1980; Clark, 1982). Although these writers recognize that the role of the audiologist must be enlarged beyond the identification and assessment of hearing loss, hearing aid dispensing, and aural rehabilitation, they say little regarding the need for the child to be counseled as well. Also, in the otherwise excellent guideline for counseling the family pr parents, little has been written about the use of family therapy. We, therefore, need to examine all these procedures.
