In electroporation, a brief (ms), high voltage electric field induces a
transient state of permeability of the cell membrane, which can then
be exploited to facilitate the inflow and incorporation of small, soluble
molecules into the cell (Gehl, 2003). In the present study we investigated
the potential of employing a novel electroporation-based methodology
for targeted delivery of nutrients, such as taurine, into developing
fertilized eggs as an alternative to broodstock feeding and with the
aim to improve larval performance.
