Globally, MSW is burned in more than 600 large wasteto-
energy incinerators (98 in the United States), which
burn MSW to boil water to make steam for heating water
or space, or for producing electricity. Great Britain
burns about 90% of its MSW in incinerators, compared
to 16% in the United States and 8% in Canada.
