This process at IBM is facilitated by an online pipeline identification
tool, a database with a user-friendly interface that managers use to evaluate
their most senior employees to see if they may have high potential
based on specified criteria. Thus, the pipeline identification tool is a single
database for identification of high-potential employees. The pipeline
identifi cation tool provides a visual report of a team’s or organization’s
performance and potential mapped into a nine-box grid. Th e pipeline
database can be mined to assess pipelines and develop learning plans and
solutions to strengthen candidates in the pipeline.
