Students who experience cultural differences personally can come to truly understand where other cultures are coming from.

The real differences come from somewhere beyond the immediately visible, and influence the way of understanding the world. You cannot understand it from reading a book or watching a TV show. Only if you have been in a foreign country for a longer period of time you can truly understand another culture.
