The purpose of this study is to describe the extent to which parenting styles affect a
preschool aged child's social emotional development. To facilitate the appropriate development,
parents need to support the child's growing sense of self reliance, self esteem, behavior control
and encourage the child to develop meaningful relationships with other adult models outside the
family. The research that has previously been done on this topic will play an important part of
this study, as findings in this area have shown that there is a correlation between the two
variables.
