Mr. Miller owns a repair shop in a small town. He repairs anything that people bring to his shop although he is a specialist in fixing medical equipment, especially hearing aids. One day an old gentleman came into Mr. Miller’s shop. He walked up to the counter where Mr. Miller was working and put a hearing aid on the counter without saying a word.
Mr. Miller picked it up and examined it. Then he asked him what had gone wrong with it. But the man did not answer him. So he asked him again. but this time in a very loud voice. The man, again, did not reply. Therefore, Mr. Miller shouted the question even louder. The old gentleman became very annoyed. He look out a piece of paper and a pen which he had bought before he came into the shop and wrote, “You don’t have to shout so loud. I’m not deaf. I could hear you very well when you first talked to me. I could not answer you because I have just been to the dentist and have had a tooth taken out. This hearing aid belongs to my wife. It fell onto the floor and will not turn on.”
