EC process was found very effective to treat SIWW. COD and
color removal was found to pH dependent and increased with current density. The process reduced to COD 605 mg/dm 3 from
3782 mg/dm 3 (84% COD reduction) at 156 A/m 2 , pH 6 and g
20 mm. At same operating conditions the color reduced to 86%.
The electrode loss of 0.795 g/dm 3 , energy consumption of 16.75 Wh/dm 3 and specific energy consumption of 13.90 Wh/
dm 3 g COD removal were obtained at pH 6 and CD 78 A/m 2 with
62% COD removal and expenditure of INR 348 ($5.61). The treated
effluent does not meet to discharge/recycle quality of effluent.
Thus, coagulation/membrane separation can be further applied to
bring the effluent to dischargeable/recyclable.
