The FRAP assay was performed using the methodology described by Benzie and Strain (1996). The working FRAP reagent was prepared by mixing 0.3 M acetate buffer (pH 3.6), 10 mM 2,4,6-tripyridyl-s-triazine (TPTZ) in 40 mM HCl and 20 mM FeCl3, 6 H2O in 10:1:1 ratio prior to use and heated at 37 °C in water bath for 10 min. Hundred μl of extract was used for the reaction with 2.7 ml of FRAP reagent. The final reaction volume was made up to 3 ml with sterile distilled water. The reaction mixture was incubated in dark for 30 min. The absorbance of the colored complex (ferrous tripyridyltriazine complex) was recorded at 593 nm. An increased absorbance power indicated a higher reducing power.
