It was expected that the side chain of the chromanol ring had no influence on the AOA.
But α-tocotrienol had significant higher values than α-tocopherol. This relation was also observed in the ORAC assay (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) by Müller et al. (2010), who investigated the AOA of tocopherols and tocotrienols by FRAP – (ferric reducing antioxidant power), α-TEAC – (α-tocopherol equivalent antioxidant capacity), DPPH – (2,2′ diphenylpicrylhydrazyl scavenging activity) and CL-assay – (oxygen radical-scavenging activity) (Müller et al., 2010).
